The San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department (TAD), in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), is committed to offering free income tax return preparation to eligible low to moderate income taxpayers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA services are available to eligible individuals and families who's combined household earned income was less than $55,000 in 2016. The VITA program is focused on increasing awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit, or EITC, which most VITA qualified taxpayers are eligible to receive.
In 2016, TAD provided free tax preparation services to more than 17,262 taxpayers in our community and processed more than $34 million in combined federal and state refunds; of this, $15.3 million was a direct result of TAD's efforts in increasing families' access to the Earned Income Tax Credit (Federal and State) and other refundable credits.
TAD is doing its part to help the community achieve our Countywide Vision by serving our residents and ensuring that San Bernardino County is a prosperous and desired destination for visitors, and a home for anyone seeking a sense of community and the best life has to offer.
