In most cases, the children available for adoption through the County are residing in foster care settings and the parental rights of their birth parents have been terminated by the juvenile court, usually due to substantiated abuse and/or neglect. The children range in age from birth to teenagers and come from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Some are single children and others are "sibling sets" or brothers and/or sisters who are looking for one family willing to adopt them all and keep them together. Due to the circumstances and experiences the children have encountered, they may have emotional, behavioral or medical conditions which require love, patience and support from those who choose to have them become a member of their family.
